For the first time, I submitted my images to a photography competition. I always thought competitions were gimmicky and a waste of time. My friends, Darryl Ann and Joe, of Salt and Pine Photography, convinced me otherwise. They encouraged me to enter the Shoot and Share Photo Contest and I am so thankful that they did! With specific categories and a limit on submissions, I was forced to view my work from a different perspective and be incredibly decisive on the images that I wanted to enter into the contest. Unsurprisingly, I gravitated to images of joy, motion and relationship. Photographers, I highly encourage you to submit your images to the next Shoot & Share Contest! You will learn more about your tendencies and your preferences as a photographer. The best part? It’s free to enter!
Honestly, I was surprised at the results. I had hoped to do well, but my expectations were quite low (mostly because I never think very highly of myself). Based on public votes, 30 of my images placed in the top 30% of all submissions!!! How awesome is that? I am still elated! While they were announcing the winners, I was texting Darryl Ann essentially every other minute to see how the process worked as I increasingly grew more nervous and anxious. Graciously, she responded every time! I was over the moon to find out that I had a Top 100 image! You can view my results summary HERE.
